Formlabs Tough 1500 Resin V2 (Form Studio 1) 1 Litre
What is Formlabs Tough 1500 Resin V2 for Form Studio 1?
Formlabs Tough 1500 Resin V2 (Form Studio 1) is an engineering-grade photopolymer developed to produce stiff, pliable parts that absorb repetitive impacts and spring back quickly under dynamic cyclic load. Tough 1500 V2 Resin for teh Form Studio 1 is packaged in a dedicated cartridge designed specifically for the Form Studio 1.
Simulating the mechanical behavior of polypropylene (PP), Tough 1500 Resin V2 balances tensile modulus and elongation at break, making it the material of choice for functional prototypes subjected to bending, flexing, and cyclical wear. To support its specialised chemistry, this material prints using the broad-compatibility Form Studio 1 Resin Tank Pro and features validated 100 µm layer settings in PreForm.
Key Features at a Glance
- Polypropylene (PP) Mechanical Simulation: Stiff yet pliable behavior with fast elastic recovery under repetitive deflections.
- Validated Formula: Proven industrial Tough 1500 V2 Resin at an accessible, studio-friendly price point.
- Cyclic Impact & Shock Resistance: Absorbs mechanical shocks and flexes under load without shattering or permanent plastic deformation.
- Ambient UV Post-Curing: Reaches full functional mechanical properties in approximately 30 minutes in ambient post-processing units without requiring thermal curing.
- Dedicated Form Studio 1 Cartridge: Form-factored and chipped for the Form Studio 1 (requires Open Material Mode if operated on Form 4, 4B, or 4L hardware).
- Requires Resin Tank Pro: Runs reliably in the chemically resistant Form Studio 1 Resin Tank Pro with factory PreForm 100 µm print profiles.
Why Choose Tough 1500 Resin V2?
Produce durable functional prototypes, resilient snap-fit assemblies, and shop-floor manufacturing aids that withstand real-world mechanical stress.
Resilient Spring-Back
Parts deflect under strain and return rapidly to their initial geometry, making it ideal for compliant mechanisms, living hinges, and spring clips.
Repeatable Snap-Fits
Provides the elongation and compliance needed for push-fit enclosures and interlocking joints that endure repeated assembly and disassembly.
Factory Floor Toughness
Survives drops, vibrations, and impact forces on active manufacturing lines when used for custom drill guides, nest fixtures, and alignment jigs.
How It Works: Technology, Compatibility & Workflow
Tough 1500 Resin V2 cures under the Form Studio 1's 405 nm Low Force Display (LFD) light engine. The material is formulated with a calibrated cross-linking density that yields high elongation and ductile failure characteristics rather than brittle fracture.
Critical Hardware & Chemical Compatibility Guidelines:
- Mandatory Tank Selection: Tough 1500 Resin V2 requires the Form Studio 1 Resin Tank Pro. The standard Form Studio 1 Resin Tank is chemically incompatible with this resin formulation.
- Print Speeds & Mixing: Because the Form Studio 1 manages resin homogeneity and temperature distribution via an automated build platform movement routine rather than an active mixer arm, print speeds with Tough 1500 V2 are moderately slower than on Form 4. (Note: For high-volume production with Tough resins, the Form 4 provides higher throughput).
- Cartridge Hardware Keying: This cartridge is visually and physically configured for the Form Studio 1. It will not run natively on Form 4, Form 4B, or Form 4L printers unless Open Material Mode (OMM) is enabled.
- Solvent Washing Notice: Clean printed parts using Isopropyl Alcohol (IPA) or TPM. Tough 1500 Resin V2 is incompatible with Formlabs Resin Washing Solution.
-
Simplified Curing: Unlike high-temperature engineering resins that demand 70°C heat, Tough 1500 Resin V2 fully cures in ambient post-cure conditions (approx. 30 minutes in the Form Studio Wash+Cure station).
- For faster curing the Form Cure (2nd Generation) can be used with Tough 1500 V2.
Standard 4-Step Print Workflow:
- Prepare: Open your model in PreForm, select Tough 1500 V2, and generate supports at the validated 100 micron layer setting.
- Print: Install your Resin Tank Pro and insert the cartridge into your Form Studio 1 for automated, hands-free dispensing.
- Wash: Transfer parts on the build platform or basket to the Form Studio Wash+Cure basin. Clean with IPA or TPM, then elevate the basket to air dry completely.
- Cure: Place parts on the glass turntable in the Form Studio Wash+Cure. Run a 30-minute 405 nm UV cycle to achieve complete mechanical stiffness and surface finish.
