The Formlabs VOC Extractor is a compact, external air filtration add-on engineered to reduce volatile organic compound (VOC) levels while your 3D printer operates]. By drawing air through a multi-stage filtration system, it vents clean air back into your room, removing barriers to printing in enclosed workspaces, classrooms, and design studios.
When paired with the Form Studio 1 and Alpha Resins, the VOC Extractor enables the printer to achieve UL GREENGUARD Gold Certification, making it the first resin SLA 3D printing system certified for low chemical emissions in indoor environments. It is also fully compatible with Form 4 and Form 4B printers.

How It Works: Technology & Maintenance
The Formlabs VOC Extractor attaches directly to the dedicated accessory port on compatible printers. When a print job begins, the unit automatically powers on, pulling chamber air through its multi-layer filter stack and exhausting purified air back into the room.
Filtration Stack & Flow Control:
- Pre-Filter Layer: Traps airborne dust and fine particles to extend the operating life of the carbon elements.
- Dual Activated Carbon HEPA Filters: Adsorbs volatile organic compounds, vapors, and sensitisers generated during photopolymerisation.
- Three Fan Settings: Adjustable between 7 CFM, 12 CFM, and 19 CFM. The 12 CFM setting is the standardised speed used for official UL GREENGUARD Gold emissions testing.
Filter Lifespan & Replacement Kits:
Each set of activated carbon HEPA filters provides approximately 330 hours of active print time. Maintenance is straightforward with available replacement kits:
- VOC Extractor Replacement Kit: Includes 2 replacement activated carbon HEPA filters and 4 spare pre-filters.
- Carbon Replacement Protocol: Always replace both carbon filters simultaneously to maintain balanced airflow and consistent absorption.
