Formlabs Form Studio 1 Build Platform

The Formlabs Form Studio 1 Build Platform is a durable, precision-machined aluminum build platform designed exclusively for the Form Studio 1 3D printer. Engineered with an ultra-low profile to maximize the printer’s 235 mm vertical build envelope, it provides flat, reliable adhesion across all compatible materials, including Alpha Resins, engineering resins, and elastomeric formulations like Flexible 80A Resin V2. Keeping a spare build platform on hand allows you to start your next print immediately while post-processing finished parts on another, minimising workflow downtime.

What is the Form Studio 1 Build Platform?

The Formlabs Form Studio 1 Build Platform is the standard, rigid aluminum build surface engineered specifically for the Form Studio 1 resin 3D printer. Designed to deliver uncompromising rigidity and optimal first-layer adhesion, this platform ensures consistent print accuracy across your entire build area.

To maximise vertical build volume while keeping the machine compact, the Form Studio 1 Build Platform features an updated low-profile form factor that unlocks a tall 235 mm print height. Maintaining a spare build platform in your workshop allows you to seamlessly rotate plates, launching a new job immediately while washing, curing, or removing parts from the previous run.

Key Features at a Glance

  • Durable Machined Aluminum: Rigid, flat metal surface provides reliable first-layer bonding and resists long-term wear.
  • Universal Resin Compatibility: Fully compatible with all Form Studio 1 materials, including Alpha Resins, Tough 1500 V2, True Cast, and flexible resins.
  • Essential for Flexible Resins: The required build surface for printing elastomeric resins like Flexible 80A Resin V2.
  • Expanded 235 mm Build Height: Thinner, low-profile design accommodates taller parts compared to previous-generation platforms.
  • Continuous Printing Workflow: Eliminate machine idle time by swapping plates between successive print jobs.

Why Choose the Form Studio 1 Build Platform?

Optimise printer utilisation and maintain continuous production in your rapid prototyping workshop.

Zero Workflow Downtime

Don't wait for post-processing to finish. Pop a spare platform directly into the printer to keep your Form Studio 1 producing back-to-back jobs.

Full Elastomer Support

Unlike flexible build plates, this solid aluminum platform provides the firm baseline required to properly scrape and detach flexible resins such as Flexible 80A V2.

Maximised Build Envelope

Engineered with a slimmer profile that works alongside the updated resin tank to deliver a full 235 mm vertical build height.

Rugged Durability

Constructed from solid aluminum to withstand daily scraper use, chemical solvent washing, and repetitive thermal cycles.

How It Works: Technology & Compatibility

The Form Studio 1 Build Platform mounts directly onto the printer's Z-axis staging carriage using Formlabs' intuitive quick-locking latch mechanism. Its calibrated flat face provides reliable bonding for base layers and touchpoint foundation rafts.

Why is it Thinner and Lower Profile?

Formlabs designed the Form Studio 1 to offer a significantly more compact benchtop footprint while increasing vertical print volume over earlier platforms (up to 235 mm compared to 210 mm on Form 4). Shrinking the vertical profile of the build platform and resin tank made it possible to expand total Z-height within a smaller chassis.

Form 4 Compatibility Notice:

While the latching lever concept looks identical to the Form 4, the Form Studio 1 Build Platform is NOT backward-compatible with Form 4 or Form 4B. The latch receiver geometry and alignment points differ, meaning a Form Studio 1 build platform will not seat into a Form 4 carriage, and a Form 4 platform cannot be installed on a Form Studio 1.

Recommended Part Removal Workflow:

  1. Unlatch & Wash: Release the cam latch, remove the platform, and place it directly into the Form Studio Wash+Cure basin.
  2. Swap Platform: Lock a clean spare build platform into your Form Studio 1 to start your next scheduled print immediately.
  3. Remove Parts: Using the scraper and removal tools included in your Accessories Box, gently pry printed parts from the aluminum face along the chamfered raft edge.
  4. Inspect & Reuse: Wipe the aluminum surface clean with IPA or Resin Wash Solution to ensure no cured residue remains before the next run.
